When someone may be experiencing violence, abuse, or controlling behaviour, a simple message can make a difference—but safety comes first.

Before asking sensitive questions, check whether they are alone and able to speak freely.

🤚 Open Palm – Start the conversation.
🤚 Tuck Thumb – Check if it is safe to talk.
✊ Trap Thumb – Be prepared if they need help.

You can ask:
• “Are you free to talk?”
• “Is anyone else there?”
• “Should I call back later?”

If something feels off, trust your instincts and keep the conversation focused on their safety.

At WBC CARES Canada 🇨🇦 , we believe real strength is looking out for one another. A caring conversation could be the first step toward help and hope.

💚Check in.
💚Listen without judgment.
💚 Respect their choices.
💚 Help them connect with support when they’re ready.
