Boxers’ Fundraiser for Israel Vazquez’s Family: A Day of Giving Back
A Knockout Event
The 2nd Annual Bowling Tournament, hosted by Alan Santana, was a spectacular gathering at the Fountain Bowl in Fountain Valley, California. Former boxers and champions came together to compete for a good cause, raising funds for the family of the late Israel “El Magnifico” Vazquez, the beloved Mexican warrior.
Honoring a Legend
Israel Vazquez, a former WBC super bantamweight champion, passed away on December 3 after a courageous battle with cancer. The January 18 bowling event was dedicated to supporting his wife, Laura, and their three children—Israel Jr., Anthony, and Zoe. It was a heartfelt way to honor the life of a fighter who left an undeniable mark on the sport.
A Community Coming Together
Alan Santana was proud to organize this fundraiser with help from author Chris Smith. Together, they aimed to give back to the Vazquez family, remembering the champion known for his fierce rivalry with Rafael Marquez. The event was filled with former fighters, including Danny “Little Red” Lopez, Art Frias, and the Weaver Triplets (Floyd, Lloyd, and Troy), all coming together to celebrate Israel’s life and legacy.
Supporting a Fallen Fighter
The day’s co-host, Gene Aguilera, alongside numerous other boxing figures, showed their support for the Vazquez family. Everyone in attendance, from fighters to fans, shared a common goal: to help and honor Israel Vazquez’s memory. The event served as a reminder of the close-knit bond within the boxing community and the power of giving back to those in need.
